Enhanced Energy Solutions replaced two older Potterton boilers with a new commercial boiler arrangement at Darland High School in Wrexham.
A school’s heating plant has a demanding job. It must support a large building through changing weather and occupancy, while remaining practical to maintain over the years ahead. When Darland High School needed to replace its two non-condensing Potterton boilers, Enhanced Energy Solutions carried out a plant room upgrade centred on two Ideal Evomax boilers.
The new boilers were installed on a floor standing cascade jig, together with a plate heat exchanger. This arrangement brought the replacement boilers and associated equipment together within the school’s existing plant room.
Replacing the existing boilers
The project began with the removal of the two Potterton boilers. In their place, our team installed two Ideal Evomax commercial boilers on a floor standing cascade jig.
A cascade arrangement allows multiple boilers to serve one heating system. Rather than relying on a single large boiler, it provides a way for the system to use the available boilers in response to heating demand. For a building such as a school, the layout of the plant and how it connects to the wider heating system are important parts of the replacement work.
The installation also included a plate heat exchanger. This transfers heat between separate water circuits without mixing the water in those circuits. It is a useful component where the boiler side and the building’s heating circuit need to work together while remaining hydraulically separate.

A planned upgrade for an education building
Replacing commercial boilers involves more than choosing new appliances. The installation needs to fit the available plant room space and connect with the building’s existing heating infrastructure. At Darland High School, the floor standing jig provided a structured arrangement for the two boilers, while the plate heat exchanger formed part of the connection to the wider system.
The completed work replaced the school’s two older non-condensing boilers with a modern commercial boiler installation. It is an example of the commercial boiler replacement and plant room work carried out by Enhanced Energy Solutions for larger buildings.
Discuss a commercial heating project
Whether you manage a school, workplace or other commercial building, ageing boilers can make it necessary to review the whole plant room arrangement. Enhanced Energy Solutions can help with commercial heating installations, repairs and maintenance.
