Two commercial boilers replaced during the summer holidays as the first stage of a wider heating plant upgrade.
Schools depend on reliable heating and hot water, and the opportunity to carry out major plant room work is limited during term time. At Bryn Alyn School in Wrexham, Enhanced Energy Solutions began a staged upgrade of a system comprising two Potterton boilers and two connected air source heat pumps.
The immediate priority was to replace the boilers and get heating and hot water available before pupils and staff returned after the summer holidays. Replacing the air source heat pumps forms the second stage of the project.
A practical first stage for a working school
The summer break provided a window to address the boiler replacement first, while allowing the air source heat pump work to be planned separately.
Enhanced Energy Solutions replaced the two Potterton boilers with two Ideal Evomax 2 commercial boilers in the plant room. The new boilers were connected to the school’s heating system, with the work focused on making heating and hot water available ahead of the new term.

Working around the school calendar
For education buildings, the timing of heating work matters. Carrying out this stage during the summer holidays allowed the priority boiler replacement to be completed before the school returned to normal use.
Splitting the upgrade into stages also allowed the immediate need for heating and hot water to be addressed while the air source heat pump replacement remained a separate, planned phase.

The next stage
Stage two will involve replacing the two air source heat pumps connected to the system. We’ll update this case study when that work has been completed.
